Sept. 16

Sept. 18

• Cat adoption – 5 to 7 p.m.; also 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Bolingbrook PetSmart on Weber Road. Call Humane Haven Animal Shelter at 630-378-4208 for information or an appointment. All Humane Haven cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, FeLV/FIV tested and have their distemper and rabies shots.

“Pond Bugs" registration deadline – Event is 1 to 3 p.m., Sept. 21, Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township. Join a hike to Snapper Pond to find out what type of insects live there and learn about insect lifecycles. This program is being held in conjunction with the “What’s Bugging Belva?” exhibit. • “Woodland and River Bird Hike" registration deadline – Event is 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, McKinley Woods – Frederick’s Grove, Channahon. Learn from a naturalist and other like-minded birders as you take a 1-2 mile bird hike through an oak-hickory forest near the Des Plaines River. Meet at Frederick’s Grove Shelter. • “Morning Bird Hike" – 8 to 10 a.m., Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township. Find out which birds are coming through the preserves by attending this naturalist-led hike of up to 2 miles.
