Area roundup: Minooka girls volleyball captures SPC victory over Joliet Central

The Minooka girls volleyball team rolled to a Southwest Prairie victory over Joliet Central on Thursday, 25-12, 25-15, moving them to 10-1.

The Indians got seven kills and two blocks from Heidi Bonde, and Holly Kropke had six kills and five digs. Zoey Seput had 20 assists.

Lockport def. Stagg 25-8, 25-9: The Porters had no problem picking up a SouthWest Suburban victory.

Taylor Morgan had six kills to lead a balanced Lockport attack, while Dovile Gorys had 14 assists, four service aces and five digs.


Dundee-Crown 2, Lincoln-Way West 1: The Warriors came up short in a nonconference match, making them 4-5 on the season.


Joliet Township 166, Plainfield Central 211: Joliet picked up another Southwest Prairie Conference win.

Maddy Palmer led the way with a 1-over-par 37, while Morgan Anderson (42), Kaelyn Cronin (43) and Jamie Daniels (44) each helped the effort.


Lincoln-Way Central 6, Lincoln-Way West 1: The Knights picked up a comfortable win in the inner-district rivalry matchup.


Anderson wins Pigskin Preview Player of the Week: Joliet Catholic running back Jordan Anderson was awarded the Week 3 State Farm Agent Kevin Molloy Pigskin Preview Player of the Week.

Anderson ran for 265 yards on 25 carries and had three touchdown in JCA’s narrow victory over St. Laurence. It is the first time a sophomore has earned the award.


Jones wins gold medals at Senior Olympics event: Tom Jones, of Joliet, won several gold medals at the Wisconsin Senior Olympics.

Jones was a member of the Evanston Ravengers men’s basketball team that competed in the 60 to 64 age division at the Olympics held at South Division High School in Milwaukee.

Jones also competed in the free throw competiton and 3-point shooting contest for the same age group and won gold medals in each event.
