DECATUR – Lincoln-Way Central’s Carly Schiene shot a 74 Saturday to finish tied for fifth with four others at five-over par 149 in the IHSA Class 2A girls golf finals at Hickory Point Golf Club. The senior’s efforts helped the Knights to a fourth-place finish with a 641 total, which was five strokes behind Loyola Academy. Other area leaders were Lincoln-Way Central’s Sydney Miron (159, T-32nd) and Maddie Pyle (160, T-35th), and Joliet Township’s Maddy Palmer (160, T-35th). In the 1A finals, Reed-Custer’s Amber Maddox tied for 21st with an 80 for a 159 total.
Class 2A Finals: Lemont’s Paulius Malcius shot a 72 for an even par 142 two-day total to take fifth, while Providence Catholic’s Davis Billows tied for ninth after shooting a 75 to give him a 148 and Morris’ Eli Davy had a 157.
Class 2A Lockport Sectional: The Porters won, 30-15, over runner-up Minooka. Lockport advanced both doubles teams as Natalie Barth and Kamila Kalinowska beat Jessica Polino and Emilia Jurszyk 6-1, 6-0. In singles, Joliet West’s Anne Starasinich beat Lockport’s Patricia Miszczak, 6-2, 6-3, for first, while Plainfield North’s Stephanie Kucera rallied past Plainfield Central’s Madigan Kearney, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, for third. Minooka qualified both doubles teams as Marlo Scholtes and Hannah Grace Marti won, 6-4, 6-1, over Isabelle Figarelli and McKenna O’Donnell.
Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Sectional: The Knights won the sectional title by the third tiebreaker after they tied Homewood-Flossmoor with 22 points apiece. Central got a title effort from the doubles team of Emma and Kara Rimkunas by a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Lincoln-Way East’s Maddie Harper and Ellie Marion. The Knights also took second in singles with Kiana Sikich, who fell, 6-2, 6-3, in the finals to H-F’s Lauren Legardy. The Griffins also received a third-place finish from the doubles team of Sara Cooley and Jillian Jackson, while Lincoln-Way West’s Natalie Singh took fourth in singles.
Class 1A Marian Catholic Sectional: Joliet Catholic Academy beat Providence Catholic, 30-18, for the title. In the singles finals, Providence’s Emma Davis beat JCA’s Mia Bertino by a 6-3, 6-2 score. The Angels claimed the top two spots in doubles as Sara Neville and Audrey Pender won, 6-3, 6-2, over Samantha Scordo and Kelsey Kempes.

SouthWest Suburban Conference Meet: Lincoln-Way Central beat Bradley-Bourbonnais, 38-50, for first in the Red division while Sandburg defeated host Lockport, 23-61, to win the Blue division. Turning in the day’s best showing was Lincoln-Way East’s Brett Gardner, who won the Blue division race in 14:16.2, while Central’s Jared Kreis captured the title in the Red division race in 14:25.7. Other top 10 finishers in the Red division were Central’s Caden Simone (4th, 16:02.6) and Kurt Kreis (8th, 16:14.9), and Lincoln-Way West’s Bobby Ryan (7th, 16:14.6). Other area leaders in the Blue division were Bolingbrook’s Tyler Cushing (4th, 15:11.2) and Lockport’s Jacob Hinchley (9th, 15:34.9).
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
SouthWest Suburban Conference Meet: Host Lockport beat Sandburg, 23-53, to win the Blue division, while Lincoln-Way Central won the Red division by a 19-53 margin over Lincoln-Way West. Leading the Red division were Central’s Rachel Baumgartner (1st, 18:23.4), Merrigan Allen (2nd, 18:25.6), Lexy Sams (4th, 19:18.9), Catherine Ihrke (5th, 19:23.4) and Colleen Erdman (7th, 19:29.8), and West’s Gianna Arizzi (6th, 19:23.7). Top finishers in the Blue race were Lockport’s Caroline Turner (2nd, 18:16.4), Kayla Shea (3rd, 18:28.1), Abbey Kozak (5th, 18:39.9), Madison Polinski (6th, 18:44.1) and Samantha Weisner (7th, 18:58.6), Lincoln-Way East’s Kate Guderjan (4th, 18:32.2) and Bolingbrook’s Ellie Defarno (8th, 19:04.4).
Porters third at Maine West: Lockport (23-10) went 4-1 to claim a third-place finish. Leaders in the third-place match were Taylor Morgan (10 kills), Nadia Goich (six kills, two blocks), Dovile Gorys (20 assists) and Ellie Anselmo (20 digs).
Minooka fifth at Harvestfest: The Indians (26-6) took fifth in the gold division by going 4-1. Zoey Seput was all-tournament with 112 assists, 20 blocks and five aces, Heidi Bonde had 43 kills and seven blocks, and Hailey Sperling had 25 kills and eight blocks.
Knights third at own invite: Lincoln-Way Central went 4-1 to finish third in its own meet. Leaders were Katie Barry (37 kills, 23 digs) Nicole Ramirez (104 assists, 28 digs, 13 aces) Rachel Kolodziej (38 kills, four aces, six blocks) and Brooklyn Condon (36 digs).
