Firefighters put out a fire that damaged the overhang of a building that was near Fleckenstein’s Bakery in New Lenox, according to a New Lenox Fire Protection District news release.
About 2 a.m. Thursday, fire crews with the New Lenox Fire Protection District received a report of a fire in the 350 block of West Maple Street. A passerby noticed the fire and alerted a police officer, who called in the fire, the news release said.
Firefighters found an active fire in the overhang of the building that is just outside Fleckenstein’s Bakery. New Lenox Fire Protection District spokeswoman Marisa Schrieber said the bakery was only damaged by smoke from the fire and water from firefighters.
Firefighters were on scene for more than an hour.
