A Frankfort man was arrested after he allegedly drove a heavily damaged car with a missing front right tire while he was intoxicated with a blood-alcohol concentration more than four times the legal limit, police said.
Kenneth R. Kuzmicki, 58, of the 8400 block of Blackthorn Way, was previously arrested and convicted multiple times for driving while his license was suspended and convicted several times of driving under the influence, Will County Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
When Kuzmicki was hospitalized Wednesday after he drove his 2006 Saturn into a field in Frankfort, the hospital staff discovered he had a blood-alcohol concentration of almost 0.35%, Hoffmeyer said. The legal limit for alcohol in Illinois is 0.08.
Deputies received a call about Kuzmicki about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hoffmeyer said. A witness followed Kuzmicki after seeing his car strike a curb and drive on the wrong side of 88th Avenue near Blackthorn Way, she said.
When deputies caught up with Kuzmicki, they saw his car swerve, Hoffmeyer said. Kuzmicki kept driving even though the deputies activated their emergency lights, she said.
Kuzmicki tried to turn into a driveway on Blackthorn Way, but he missed it, drove his car in reverse and almost struck the deputies’ car, Hoffmeyer said. He then drove his car into a field before he stopped, she said. Kuzmicki appeared heavily intoxicated and his car was damaged from a crash in University Park, Hoffmeyer said.
Kuzmicki was taken to a hospital and and when deputies tried to speak with him, he was “very confused” and thought it was the year 1996, she said.
