Here, Howard is with the school’s top readers during the first week of a reading challenge.

Principal Jill Howard,of Troy Cronin Elementary School, recently read a book to her students atop a Troy Fire Protection District bucket truck.

Howard promised her students that if they read at least 10,000 pages in a two-week period of time, she would read to them from up high in a firetruck bucket.

Her students read more than 87,000 pages, so up she went.

Howard read, “Gingerbread Man Loose on the Fire Truck,” by Laura Murray to the school’s students.

According to Lt. Phillip Morel, of the Troy Fire Department, Howard read from a height of 25-feet, then was lifted to 46-feet as an encore at the request of the students.
