Christopher Columbus has really fallen out of favor these last few years.
Maybe Columbus deserves it, and maybe he doesn’t. There’s no denying things went downhill for the indigenous people who happened to be living in the New World after he arrived there. But Columbus also managed to lead four tiny ships across the Atlantic Ocean with only primitive navigational instruments. He showed courage, ingenuity and smarts, and you can’t take that away from him, even if you can take away his holiday, as some states have.
But while Columbus is vilified and his holiday decried, the pilgrims, for some reason, get a pass.
You don't hear too many calling for an end to Thanksgiving.
