MVA Female Athlete of the Week: Hailey Bozych, Plainfield East

Bowling, Sophomore

Hailey Bozych
Hailey Bozych

Why Bozych was selected:

The Bengals sophomore bowler posted the best score of the morning session at the Joliet West Invite which allowed her to win individual honors in the competition.

Bozych talked with Herald-News sportswriter Curt Herron. Below is an edited transcript.

Herron: What did you like most about your performance?

Bozych: I was really consistent with throwing strikes or hitting my mark. And my spare shooting has been pretty good since I've been picking up most of my spares.

Herron: What do you like most about your team?

Bozych: I'm captain this year and I like helping other girls who are new to get to know the sport. Like how to move, throw the ball and where to throw it. And also, just having fun.

Herron: What do you feel about representing Plainfield East?

Bozych: I feel really honored since this is a big deal. I feel like the girls listen more to a person their age more than to someone who is older because I can joke around with them.

Herron: What do you like the most about bowling?

Bozych: I've been bowling since I was four. I like the different balls that I can use and how they react on the oil and on the lanes.

Herron: How well have you done in bowling outside of high school?

Bozych: Last year I placed 21st in the nation for U-15 girls.

Herron: Who's your biggest influence in bowling?

Bozych: Probably my dad, Scott. He's pushed me so far so I keep improving and he's always there to help me get to where I want to be. And he's always providing me with everything I need to succeed.

Herron: What's your favorite TV show and what's your favorite movie?

Bozych: 'Grey's Anatomy'. And I like 'The Fault in Our Stars'.

Herron: What type of music do you like to listen to and favorite artist?

Bozych: Pop and rap. Not really, I like everybody.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?

Bozych: Go bowling and I play softball, too.

What's your favorite class in school? Algebra II.

Herron: Who's someone that you'd like to meet?

Bozych: Probably more pro bowlers since I've met a few at nationals so maybe I'll meet a few more this year.

Herron: What do want to do in the future?

Bozych: I want to be an elementary school teacher.

Do you have any pets? I have a Black Lab named Cosmo.

Herron: Where's the most interesting place that you've visited?

Bozych: Pennsylvania when we went to Hersheypark last summer.

Herron: Where's somewhere that you would like to visit?

Bozych: California.
