Joliet police are investigating a drive-by shooting on Christmas Eve that left five people wounded and a gun attack at a party on the same day in which two people were wounded.
About 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24, officers went to Fuller Avenue and Demmond Street after receiving a report of shots fired, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said.
The officers then learned that a person had been shot at the 1200 block of Cutter Avenue, Botzum said. Although officers found spent shell casings and blood in front of a residence on Cutter Avenue, they found no victim, he said.
The officers then went to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox after receiving a report of a gunshot victim and hospital staff told them they treated five victims, Botzum said.
The officers determined the five victims were in front of the residence on Cutter Avenue when people inside a vehicle driving past began shooting at them, Botzum said.
“The victims drove themselves to Silver Cross Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries,” Botzum said.
Officers went to the 800 block of North Center Street about midnight to respond to another report of shots fired, Botzum said. The officers saw an unresponsive person who was shot in the hip, and they provided aid, he said.
The victim was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in critical but stable condition, he said.
The officers then learned another man suffered a graze wound to his face in the shooting, Botzum said.
The officers determined both victims were shot while at a party inside a Center Street apartment, he said.
Anyone with information on the shootings is encouraged to call Joliet police at 815-724-3020.
