A former candidate for president endorsed Will County Board member Rachel Ventura in her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives.

After Marianne Williamson, the author and spiritual leader, dropped out of the Democratic primary for president earlier this month, she decided to help some like-minded congressional candidates, according to a news release from Ventura's campaign.

Williamson said in the release she's endorsing Ventura "because she isn't afraid to take on entrenched, powerful interests and can be counted on to fight for everyone in her community, for the environment and opposes systemic racism and perpetual war."

Ventura has also received endorsements from progressive groups like Brand New Congress and Our Revolution.

She's running to unseat U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville.

Ventura was elected to the Will County Board in 2018.

The 11th District includes all or parts of Joliet, Plainfield, New Lenox, Bolingbrook, Naperville and Aurora.
