“The great concern is that this could become an epidemic,” Pinsky said. “But I am confident that, with proper health screening of this it could, potentially, be prevented.”
What if someone comes into Edward Hospital with flu-like symptoms? Staff is required to ask travel questions, specifically if that person has traveled to the Wuhan area of China, Pinsky said.
If so, that person will be placed in isolation and tested for the virus. The test will be sent to the CDC, Pinsky said.
Other tests, such as tests for flu (type A and type B), as well as the more common coronaviruses that tend to circulate within the community this time of the year, are available at Edward Hospital, Pinsky said.
The results should come back from the CDC pretty quickly, within a few days, Gupta surmises.
Bolden said protocol has been established Morris Hospital.
Gupta said protocol is being established at both Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
