Lincoln-Way High School District 210 welding students will auction off their own Texas Pit Smoker at an annual welding competition to raise funds.
The pit smoker has an estimated retail value between $1,800 and $2,400, according to a news release from District 210.
The contest will take place at Lincoln-Way Central High School, located at 1801 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox, at 4:30 p.m. March 12.
The proceeds of the auction will help the students compete in the SKILLS USA at the state level, which the district said will better prepare students for future contests and to find work after graduation.
District 210 also thanked Pipefitters Local 597 for their donations to make the project and others like it possible.
The smoker will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The winner is responsible for transportation of the smoker.
Anyone interested in previewing the smoker before the contest or who would like to place a bid because they cannot attend the contest, can contact welding instructor Daymon Gast at firstname.lastname@example.org or 815-464-3942.
District 210 serves about 7,000 students at three schools, all of which were ranked among the best high schools by U.S. News & World Report in 2019.
