On Jan. 18, Fountaindale Public Library District in Bolingbrook unveiled three new library card designs to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The cards were designed by members of the community during last fall’s library card design contest.
The library received more than 70 design entries that were then narrowed down to three finalists in each age category (ages 12 and younger, ages 13 to 17 and ages 18 and older).
Then the finalists’ designs were put online for public voting where one winner was chosen from each age category.
The selected winners are Dominic Guidice (child winner), Alissa Melville (teen winner) and Cara Sortino (adult library card contest winner).
The new library cards are only one of the many things Fountaindale has planned for their golden anniversary.
The festivities kicked off with a winter carnival featuring a performance and meet and greet with “Frozen” princesses Anna and Elsa, laser tag, a balloon sculpture live art show, live music, games and prizes.
The event drew about 1,000 people.
Future special events include an expanded Maker Faire on March 21, annual Summer Adventure from June 1 to July 31 and a birthday-themed Summer Adventure Kickoff on June 2.
To get a library card, you must be a resident of the library district and provide two forms of ID that show your current address.
