Brandon Shoemaker, Plainfield Central

Basketball, Senior

Why Shoemaker was selected:

The Wildcats senior scored 44 points in a win over Bradley-Bourbonnais to set the school record for most points in a game which broke Derrick Marks' old record of 42 from 2011.

Shoemaker talked with Herald-News sportswriter Curt Herron. Below is an edited transcript.

Herron: What did you like about your performance?

Shoemaker: I said to myself before that game that I was going to beat that record. At the beginning of the game on my first shot I was feeling it. My teammates knew to give me the ball because I was having a good shooting night and they just kept giving me the ball.

Herron: What do you like most about your team?

Shoemaker: These boys love the game and they don't ever quit and keep fighting. It doesn't matter what situation we're in, if we're down or up, we're going to keep fighting.

Herron: What do you feel about competing for Plainfield Central?

Shoemaker: It's good to be a Wildcat. I love the people here and they all treat me good and treat all of us good, no matter what.

Herron: What do you like the most about basketball?

Shoemaker: What I like the most about it is having fun and playing hard to get to where I need to be.

Herron: Who's your biggest influence for basketball?

Shoemaker: My father, Brandon, who went to Joliet Central. Since I was little, he always got me in the gym and always kept me working. He never let me give up, even if I wanted to quit, he'd tell me to keep going.

Herron: What do you want to do in your future?

Shoemaker: I want to go to a low-DI or DII school and get good playing time. And I'd like to do something like sports marketing.

Herron: What's your favorite movie?

Shoemaker: Love & Basketball.

Herron: Who's your favorite athlete? And favorite sports team?

Shoemaker: LeBron James. The Bulls and wherever LeBron goes.

Herron: What's your favorite type of music? And performer?

Shoemaker: I love R & B and Hip Hop. Lil Durk, G Herbo and Fabolous.

Herron: Where's the best place you've been to? And where would you like to go?

Shoemaker: I went to Kentucky for AAU games. I want to go to California.

Herron: Do you have any pets?

Shoemaker: I have a dog named Boomer.

Herron: What's your favorite type of food?

Shoemaker: Pizza.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?

Shoemaker: Hang with my friends or stay in the gym.
