Jazzpher Evans, Joliet West

Basketball, Senior

Why Evans was selected:

The Tigers senior averaged 16 points in wins over Providence Catholic, Plainfield South, Romeoville and Normal Community to help her team extend its winning streak to 19 games.

Evans talked with Herald-News sportswriter Curt Herron. Below is an edited transcript.

Herron: What did you like about your team's performance?

Evans: It was definitely a big week for us because we knew that seedings were coming out soon so we wanted to make sure that kept winning and not have a letdown. Playing four games in a week is a lot so to get through it and to get past Providence, who's a good team, and then keep winning made it a good week for us.

Herron: What do you like most about your team?

Evans: Just the way we run the ball is my favorite part and playing with them and being able to play up-tempo. And how we try to stay ahead of every team by coming out strong."

Herron: What do you feel about competing for Joliet West?

Evans: I think Joliet West is the best school and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. A lot of schools maybe don't see us as being as good as them. But just being here and knowing the atmosphere of the people and how everybody supports each other. I'm proud of it.

Herron: What do you like the most about basketball?

Evans: I really like the team atmosphere since I enjoy doing team things and working with people. I've been playing since I was a kid and it's it my family and I love winning.

Herron: Who's your biggest influence for basketball?

Evans: My grandpa (Marv Evans) really enjoys watching me play and has coached me since I was a little kid. With him to still be on the bench is a big motivation for me because I always want to do good for him and he gave me my love for basketball as a kid.

Herron: What's your favorite classes and want to do in your future?

Evans: My science classes since I want to major in biochemistry and specialize in genetics.

Herron: Where's the most interesting you've been to? And where would you like to visit?

Evans: Hawaii. Canada and Niagara Falls.

Herron: What's your favorite food and place to eat?

Evans: I love steak tacos. El Molcajete.

Herron: What's your favorite movies?

Evans: Love and Basketball and The Avengers.

Herron: What's your favorite type of music? And performer?

Evans: Rap and country music. Jaco and John Pardi.

Herron: Who's your favorite sports team? And athlete?

Evans: Oklahoma City Thunder. LeBron James or Russell Westbrook.

Herron: Who's someone you'd like to meet?

Evans: Beyonce.
