An 18-year-old man was arrested after he shot another man in the leg and stole his marijuana, court records show.
On Jan. 16, Isaiah W. Brown of the 100 block of Cornwall Avenue in Crete robbed a man of marijuana while armed with a handgun and shot him in the leg, according to a criminal complaint.
Crete Police Chief Scott Pieritz said police officers were sent to the 200 block of Denell Drive after receiving a report of the shooting.
“Officers were notified that the victim was being driven to the hospital by his girlfriend,” Pieritz said.
As detectives and officers responded to the scene of the shooting, another officer went to visit the victim at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer, Indiana, Pieritz said.
The victim was airlifted to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago, Pieritz said.
“Initially, the victim was uncooperative, which delayed the investigation process,” he said.
Brown was arrested on Feb. 6 after officers executed a search warrant at his home, he said.
Brown’s alleged admissions about the incident and forensic evidence in the investigation led to charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm, Pieritz said.
At a court hearing Friday, a judge set Brown’s bond at $50,000, court records show. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Brown posted 10% of his bond and he was released from the Will County jail on Saturday evening.
Brown is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in his case on Feb. 27.
