Lincoln-Way East's swimming and diving team won the SouthWest Suburban Conference championship in a tight competition where the top three were separated by 18.5 points.
Coach Steve Anderson's Griffins scored 320 points to take top honors while Sandburg beat out Andrew 305.5-301.5 to claim second place in the meet that was held in Lockport.
East had two individual champions, Mason Rhode and Cooper Cunningham. Rhode won the 100 yard butterfly in :53.75 and was third in the 200 IM in 2:01.68 while Cunningham won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.67.
Damien Ezell was fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:53.37) and Joey Lundgren was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.05)
The Griffins also took second place in the 200 medley relay (1:41.28) with Lundgren, Cunningham, Rhode and Pat Rossetto and third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.45 with Rossetto, Jacob Falejczyk, Ezell and Austin Meldeau and fourth in the 400 freestyle in 3:23.7 with Meldeau, Falejczyk, Cunningham and Rhode.
East will compete in the Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional on February 22 to see how many athletes it can qualify for the IHSA finals in Evanston on the following weekend.
