Will County Board members Steve Balich (left) and Mike Fricilone (right) field questions from local residents on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Coom's Corner in Lockport, Ill. County Republicans held a community forum to answer questions about a pending gas tax.

The entire Will County Board Republican caucus endorsed their colleague Mike Fricilone in his race for the 3rd Illinois Congressional District.

Fricilone, R-Homer Glen, is running for the Republican nomination against Catherine O’Shea of Oak Lawn and Arthur Jones of Lyons.

Every Republican on the county board backed Fricilone, including Steve Balich, Julie Berkowicz, Gloria Dollinger, Gretchen Fritz, Don Gould, Tim Kraulidis, Jim Moustis, Judy Ogalla, Annette Parker, Ray Tuminello and Tom Weigel.

“I can say Mike is a special kind of leader,” Moustis said in the release. “As our Finance Committee Chair, Mike brought in balanced budgets and was responsible for a multitude of tax cutting measures. He is a strong fiscal conservative, but most importantly, Mike has always put the community first.”

Fricilone said he was humbled by his colleagues’ support.

“This endorsement is a strong statement about where our party stands,” Fricilone said in the release. “Together our party fights for lower taxes, cutting wasteful spending, and bringing fresh, bold and conservative ideas that move our community forward.”

They also denounced Jones, a self-described Holocaust denier and former member of the American Nazi party.

“Our party does not stand with or tolerate Nazi Arthur Jones,” Fricilone said in the release.

Fricilone is also backed by Republican leaders in the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives. He was first elected to the board in 2012.

The Illinois primary election is March 17.
