The Tealight Foundation Inc., in conjunction with the Kappa Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., recently held its 25th biennial Fantasia Ball at Dinolfo’s Banquets.
Alpha Kappa Alpha was the first black sorority founded at Howard University in Washington D.C. in 1908. Today, there are nearly 1,030 chapters comprised of more than 300,000 college-educated women worldwide.
This year’s ball marks the 25th time the sorority has presented débutantes to the Joliet community. In that time, Alpha Kappa Alpha has been able to award more than $185,000 in academic scholarships.
This year’s débutantes are Alexandria M. Cannon, a senior at Waubonsie Valley, escorted by Diallo Nicholas Phillips, a Glenbard West senior; Alexis Simone Fuqua, a junior at Plainfield Central, escorted by Cameron Tyler Hosey, a Joliet West senior; Arianna Jones, a senior at Plainfield East, escorted by Dewhon Gavin, a St. Francis University freshman; Courtney Adia Miller, a senior at Plainfield East, escorted by Marcus Jeremiah Skeete, a Waubonsie Valley senior; Faith D. Skeete, a senior at Waubonsie Valley, escorted by Zachary J. Odom, a Plainfield East junior; Darby Wade, a senior at Batavia, escorted by Jamal Crockett, a Joliet Junior College sophomore.
