The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting Thursday on proposed improvements for Interstate 55 and Route 59 in the Joliet and Shorewood areas.
The proposed improvements include a new diverging diamond interchange at I-55 and Route 59, which would serve the proposed Rock Run Crossings development planned by Cullinan Properties.
IDOT will provide details on the interchange and three other planned improvements during the meeting from 4-7 p.m. in the Building U Auditorium at the Joliet Junior College Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet.
The project area is bordered by Route 52, Interstate 80, River Road and Houbolt Road.
Other parts of the project include:
• Route 52 widening from River Road to I-55 and safety improvements from I-55 to Houbolt Road;
• Extension of Olympic Boulevard from Rock Run Business Park to I-55 East Frontage Road;
• Seil Road mini-roundabouts at Raven Road and States Lane.
The state highway improvements are estimated to cost $176 million.
The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format in which people can ask questions and discuss the project with IDOT representatives.
