The village of Plainfield announced Thursday it is cancelling its 2020 Hometown Irish Parade amid concerns of the coronavirus.

The parade was scheduled for Sunday according to a news release from the Plainfield Police Department.

The village stressed it didn't believe there was any change in risk of coronavirus locally as there are no identified cases in Plainfield, Will or Kendall counties or in Plainfield School District 202.

The Irish parade will not be rescheduled this year, according to the release, but the village said it looks forward to it returning in 2021.

Questions may be directed to Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek through the police department at 815-436-6544.

Coronavirus concerns have also caused the changing of polling locations in Will County for the upcoming election.
