Two District 202 high school students took second place in two events during the annual High School German Day Competition hosted by the German department Feb. 28 at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Plainfield North High School senior Sarah Conley placed second in the spelling bee.
Plainfield South High School senior Kevin Greiner placed second in the “Impression of America” essay contest for native and heritage speakers.
In all, eight students from Plainfield High School-Central Campus, PSHS and PNHS participated in the event.
Students competed in contests including a spelling bee, poetry reading, cultural essays, art design and video production all in German.
Other students didn’t compete, but attended the day to cheer on their peers, tour the campus and observe a university-level German class.
