As of Monday afternoon, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Will County reached 26.

The Will County Health Department announced five newly-confirmed cases on top of the 21 which had already been announced.

Health department spokesman Steve Brandy said 10 of the 26 patients are men and 16 are women who range in age from their 20s to their 70s. The patients come from over a dozen communities throughout Will County, he added.

"It's all over the place right now," Brandy said. "There is representation all over the county."

Brandy added that transmission was possible throughout Will County. Sue Olenek, the executive director of the Will County Health Department, said last week that residents should take precautions, such as social distancing, regardless of where they are.

Brandy said Olenek had been reminding others to take precautions when asked about where patients who had tested positive live.

"That's pretty much irrelevant now," Brandy said.

He also noted that no young children in Will County have tested positive for the virus.

As of Monday, there were 1,285 confirmed COVID-19 cases across Illinois and 12 deaths, according to the IDPH. One of those deaths included a man in his 50s from Will County.

The county health department also has a COVID-19 hotline at 815-740-8977 for general information about the virus.
