A woman stole money from an elderly woman’s purse during a card game and struck her when she asked for the money back, police said.

About 10 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 500 block of Bethel Drive after receiving a report of a battery complaint, according to a statement released Friday by Joliet police.

Officers determined that Victoria L. Cholke, 52, of Joliet, had taken money from a 67-year-old woman’s purse during a card game, police said. The amount stolen was under $100, police said.

When the woman asked Cholke to give the money back, Cholke battered her, police said.

A 59-year-old woman tried to intervene but she also was battered by Cholke, police said.

The victims are not related to Cholke, police said.

While the officers were on scene, Cholke attempted to leave the residence, police said, then pulled away when they tried to place her in handcuffs.

After a brief struggle, Cholke was taken into custody, police said.

Cholke pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery on Oct. 5, 2018, court records show. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail, credited with already serving 31 days and given two years of conditional discharge.

On Oct. 29, 2013, Cholke pleaded guilty to aggravated battery while another charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped, court records show. She was sentenced to three years probation.

On March 26, 2012, Cholke pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft. She was given one year conditional discharge and ordered to pay a fine of $500, court records show.
