Joliet West HOSA-Future Health Professionals students participated in the first Virtual State Conference and Competition at the end of March.

With more than 2,000 state members participating, Joliet West HOSA members studied diligently and faced fierce competition in a variety of health care-related events. Joliet West students brought home ten top-10 finishes.

The school’s state champions and place holders advance to nationals in June, which also will be held virtually this year.

“Besides, all the effort and studying our students put into the competition itself, we applaud these students for also meeting all the last-minute virtual requirements,” HOSA sponsor Mary Spata said in a news release from Joliet Township High School District 204.

JWHS winners are Uma Patel, first place pharmacy science; Lucy Magat, Paola Castro Zuniga and Patel, first place medical reserve partnership; Lauren Ortiz, third place growth and development; Tha Mee Shaw, fourth place nursing assisting; Magat, fifth place extemporaneous writing; Saundria Martin, fifth place medical reading; Paola Castro Zuniga, seventh health career issues; and Magat, eighth place growth and development.
