Funds available to help income-eligible households with utility bills

The Will County Center for Community Concerns (WCCCC), as administrator of the Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is pleased to announce that funds are available to assist income-eligible households with their utility bills (gas and electric).

The Will County Center for Community Concerns (WCCCC), as administrator of the Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is pleased to announce that funds are available to assist income-eligible households with their utility bills (gas and electric). 

The assistance for utilities will be available through June 30, 2020.

A single-person household can qualify with a monthly income for up to $1,561 a two-person household up to $2,114, three-person household $2,666 and a family of four up to $3,219.

Benefits are paid directly to utilities on behalf of eligible households. The exception is households whose heating costs are included in their rent.

Any household that has not applied for assistance yet could apply as soon as possible. Households that have applied as of October 1, 2019 or after, have not received Reconnection Assistance and, have a high outstanding balance, may apply again and may receive further assistance at this time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Will County Center for Community Concerns is no longer able to do in-person appointments for LIHEAP but phone applications are being accepted.

Applicants are required to submit all documents via fax (815) 722-6344, drop box 2455 Glenwood Avenue – Joliet, IL 60435, USPS mail service or email.

To email the information, call the office at 815-722-0722 to speak with a representative. Please have all documents ready to submit before you call.

To submit an application, the following documentation is required:

Social Security Cards for everyone in the household Income for the last 30 days starting with the application date for members (examples: pay stubs, SSA, SSI, child support and unemployment)

Printouts from other agencies (ex. food stamps, medical card, TANF, and general assistance)

Current gas/electric bills issued within the last 30 days.

Other documents may be needed based on the household situation. Call the office with any questions.
