Romeoville High School senior Ryan Boots is among an elite group of students nationwide named as a winner of a $2,500 scholarship in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Boots will be attending the University of South Florida in the fall and is going to study music education. He is among 2,500 winners of this specific award nationwide.
More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
The nationwide pool of finalists, fewer than 1% of U.S. seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
