The Jefferson Street bridge will close for at least a month starting Monday.
The drawbridge over the Des Plaines River will be closed to replace mechanical components, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
The bridge is expected to be reopen in early August. A detour will be posted.
IDOT announced the mechanical work after the bridge had been closed for a week earlier this month for upgrades needed as part of a centralized control project for the drawbridges in Joliet. Bridge tenders eventually will control the bridges from a central office instead of at the individual bridges.
