There might not be any baseball games played by the Joliet Slammers this season. And if the mayor has anything to say about it, there won’t be any more political games played either. At least not by Cunningham Neighborhood Council President John Sheridan.
“I would urge this council to ignore people like John Sheridan, who are playing political games, they are playing with other people’s money, and ultimately this is going to hurt the city of Joliet and our tenants at the ballpark,” Mayor Bob O’Dekirk declared during a meeting of the city’s stadium committee.
“So again,” O’Dekirk said, “I think enough is enough. I think the council needs to stand up and put an end to this.”
O’Dekirk seemed a bit put out that Sheridan criticized the city council for approving a naming right agreement for the stadium formerly known as Silver Cross Field without going to trouble of reading it first.
