Kathie’s health continued to decline over the years. In the beginning, caretakers came to her home to help Kathy with her daily needs. But Kathy continued to support those she loved.
When Elaine lost her hair due to chemotherapy for her breast cancer treatments, Kathie shaved her own head, Elaine said.
After Kathie went to a nursing home in 2018, she donated puzzles and coloring books to the residents, Elaine said.
“She cared about everyone there,” Elaine said. “Even though she was disabled, that didn’t stop her. She had such a good and caring heart.”
Elaine said Jesse visited Kathie every Tuesday and Thursday and often on Sundays. They watched and discussed home improvement shows, Kathie’s favorite.
Before Jesse left, and Elaine, too, when she was in town, Kathie always insisted they hold hands and pray The Lord’s Prayer.
“She was very religious,” Elaine said. “Her faith, I think, is what kept her going.”
Barb wishes circumstances had turned out differently for Kathie.
