A resident was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a house caught on fire in unincorporated Lockport, according to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District.
About 11:30 p.m. Monday, firefighters responded to a fire in the 13700 block of Park Falls Court in the Lakewood Falls subdivision, officials said.
The firefighters arrived at the scene and found a two-story residence with fire in the first-floor family room, officials said. The fire was quickly extinguished by it caused extensive smoke damage throughout the home.
Three adults were in the residence and they were awakened by the smoke detectors, officials said. The residents were able to leave the home along with the family dog. One of the residents were transported in good condition to a local hospital for evaluation.
Romeoville Fire Department assisted Lockport Township Fire Protection District, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but it appears to be accidental in nature, officials said.
“The Lockport Fire District would like to emphasize how this fire stresses the importance of working smoke detectors in your home,” Lockport fire officials said in an news release. “You should have a working smoke detector in every bedroom and on every level of your home, including the basement.”
