Joliet’s going broke and these wastrels on the city council went ahead with blowing $23,000 for a firm to maybe find a new city manager.
Granted, this firm will be looking at candidates from all around the country, so it might even come up with someone halfway decent. But why even bother? We don’t know these people from other places, what they’re really like or what they’ll do once they get here. And we already tried this.
The last time, the new city manager didn’t stick around very long. And then the council tried to find a guy from somewhere in America without a search firm, and we saw how that turned out.
“We’ve done this once,” Mayor Bob O’Dekirk told the council this week. “We narrowed the field to two finalists. I thought there were several other candidates I thought were qualified, that I would have hired. We did the personality test. We get through all this and it all was for nothing. Tens of hours of staff time, thousands of dollars.”
