U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood announced her endorsement of Dani Brzozowski, the Democratic nominee for the 16th Illinois Congressional District.
Brzozowski is challenging incumbent U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, in the November general election.
Underwood referenced her own upset victory in a traditionally Republican district in 2018 as reason to back Brzozowski in 2020.
"We have so much work to do together, whether it’s making college more affordable, working on climate change, or health care issues," Underwood said in a news release. "My election was a historic victory, and we know Dani can make history too, when she wins."
Underwood also complimented Brzozowski for "her intellect, her commitment, and her relentless fight for her community."
Brzozowski also compared herself to Underwood saying they were both "young, dedicated champions of community values and the kind of practical agendas that are going to best serve the people in our districts."
Brzozowski has also earned endorsements from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, the National Organization for Women, and the Illinois AFL-CIO.
Kinzinger easily won reelection in the heavily Republican district in 2018, defeating his opponent by a 59% to 41% margin. Brzozowski noted in the release that Democratic turnout in the district for the March primary exceeded Republican turnout for the first time since Kinzinger was elected in the 16th District.
The general election is set for Nov. 3.
