A fight between two men at Leisure Lake Membership Resort in Joliet led to a man striking another man in the head with a log, causing him to suffer from a skull fracture, deep laceration to his forehead, a swollen face and a chipped tooth, police said.
On June 30, a man was with his wife at the resort when two neighboring campers confronted the couple for being loud, according to Will County sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer.
The couple told the two men, later identified as Dustin Blackwell, 32, of Perryville, Missouri, and his friend, that they were not making any noise, Hoffmeyer said.
After the conversation, Blackwell’s friend visited with the couple again to talk when Blackwell punched the man in the face, Hoffmeyer said.
Blackwell and the man fell to the ground and fought, she said. At one point, Blackwell picked up a log that was near an unlit campfire and hit the man in the head, she said.
The man was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was diagnosed with a skull fracture, deep laceration to his forehead, a swollen face and a chipped tooth, she said.
Blackwell told the deputies that the other man was the aggressor in the situation, Hoffmeyer said.
Blackwell was arrested on two felony counts of aggravated battery. A criminal complaint alleged Blackwell struck a man with a log and caused a skull fracture.
Blackwell was taken to the Will County jail and his bond was set at $20,000. On July 1, a friend posted the $2,000 Blackwell needed for his release from jail, court records show.
