The Village of New Lenox will host its second annual "Chalk the Walk" event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18 in its village commons area at 101 Veterans Parkway.

"Chalk the Walk" is an opportunity for anyone of any age (individuals, families, students, professional and aspiring artists) to create a masterpiece with sidewalk chalk.

Each registration form submitted is good for one sidewalk square. Sidewalk squares fluctuate in size but are all approximately 5' x 5.'

Each participant will be provided chalk, but participants are also welcome to bring their own supplies.

Details on what will be provided and what outside supplies are permitted will be sent in the full list of rules and guidelines approximately two weeks prior to the event.

Prizes will also given in various categories. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. with winners announced at 3 p.m. Artists do not need to be present to win.

Registration for this free event is required. Same-day registration will be given a space to create only if spaces are still available.

The event is also open to anyone who simply wants to stroll the commons and enjoy watching the creation of art and other activities.

"Chalk the Walk will live music, food and beverages and other fun art-based activities.

A portion of Veterans Parkway will be closed to traffic during this event to accommodate the event activities. Limited parking will be available on the street.

Parking is available in the south lot of the Village Hall and at Trinity Services. Parking will be available at Old Plank Trail Community Bank after 1 p.m.

The New Lenox Public Library is open during this event, so please leave that parking lot open for library patrons.
