A 60-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident where he recklessly shot a vehicle that was traveling on Interstate 80 in the New Lenox area, police said.

Shortly after 10:40 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a gas station after learning of a shooting that occurred on I-80, according to an Illinois State Police news release.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle said he was traveling on the eastbound lane of I-80 west of LaGrange Road when his vehicle was shot, police said. The man was not injured.

State troopers and agents initiated an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Robert Andracki of the 9400 block of South 86th Court in Hickory Hills, police said.

On Tuesday, Andracki was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, court records show. He was also issued a ticket by state police on a charge of operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Andracki was taken to the Will County jail at close to 5 a.m. on Saturday. He was released more than 20 minutes later after he posted 10% of his $15,000 bond, according to the jail log.

In response to several questions about the incident, Illinois State Police Trooper Omoayena Williams would only say the “investigation is open and ongoing.”

“No further information will be released at this time,” Williams said.
