On July 15, the Plainfield Police Department will hold a memorial service for Kody, an 8-year-old German shepherd that was part of the department's K-9 unit.
Kody had been part of the police department since 2013 and his handler was K-9 officer Tracy Caliendo.
The procession will begin at Ottawa Street and Van Dyke Road. The procession will leave about 9:30 a.m. and travel north on Van Dyke Road to Lockport Street.
It will then travel east on Lockport Street to Route 59, and then travel north on Route 59 to 135th Street and then travel east on 135th Street to the fire department.
The procession will be emergency vehicles only.
The service will be held at the Plainfield Fire Protection District Headquarters, located at 23748 West 135th St. in Plainfield at 10 a.m. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the service at the fire department has been limited, so it's not open to the public.
Anyone wishing to show support for Kody should line up on Lockport Street between James Street and Route 59.
Caliendo headed the creation in 2016 of a memorial to police dogs in Riverfront Park.
