Crest Hill residents escape overnight house fire

Crews battled blaze for two hours

Four people escaped a heavy house fire in Crest Hill in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to the house fire in the 1900 block of Cora Street around 2:17 a.m., according to a news release.

When firefighters arrived, they found the heavy fire showing from the rear of the one-story, single family home.

The two adults and two children inside the home evacuated safely after a neighbor pounded on their front door to alert them to the fire. The Red Cross was called to assist the family with their needs.

Additional resources and assistance was needed from the Plainfield, Romeoville, Troy, Homer and New Lenox fire departments.

Fire personnel spent about two hours battling the fire.

Lockport Fire Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
