A fire damaged a home in Joliet, leaving it uninhabitable, according to the Joliet Fire Department.
About 4 a.m. Sunday, Joliet firefighters responded to a single-family residence in the 1200 block of Alene Drive, according to Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.
Crews from Stations 7, 8, 9 and 10 were at the scene, Blaskey said.
The family inside the home woke to the sound of something burning outside and found the deck in the rear of the home was on fire, Blaskey said.
All members of the home were able to escape unharmed, Blaskey said. When the fire crews arrived, they found the deck and rear of the home on fire, he said.
The fire had spread to the interior of the home and then to another home at 1215 Alene Drive, Blaskey said. Crews were able to bring the fire under control at 4:11 a.m., he said.
Blaskey said the home is no longer habitable and the house next door sustained exterior damage.
“The cause of the fire remains under investigation,” he said.
