A man was arrested after he failed to appear in court for two cases where he faces charges of resisting an officer, obstructing an officer and retail theft, police said.

At 9:44 p.m. Tuesday, officers were notified by staff at AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center that Aaron Yonely, 49, who is homeless, was being released, according to Joliet police.

“Officers had prior knowledge that Yonely had an active Will County (failure to appear) warrant,” police said.

Officers confirmed Yonely’s identity and took him into custody without incident, police said. He was taken to the Will County jail, where he is being held on a $7,500 bond. He will need to post $750 for his release.

Yonely was previously arrested after an incident in the 300 block of South Chicago Street on July 21, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance at a nearby business, found Yonely and attempted to speak with him, police said.

Yonely refused, yelled obscenities and attempted to walk away on multiple occasions, police said.

"Officers attempted to handcuff Yonely and he began to resist the officers by tensing up his arms and not allowing officers access to his wrists while laying on the ground," police said. "Yonely continued to actively resist officers at which time officers deployed a Taser and Yonely was taken into custody after a short struggle."

Yonely was charged with obstructing an officer and resisting an officer.

In another incident on July 30, officers responded to Dollar Tree store, 2134 W. Jefferson St., in reference to a retail theft, police said.

Officers determined that Yonely left the store without paying for multiple food and drink items, police said. They found him outside the store eating food, police said.

"Yonely refused to answer any questions and attempted to flee from officers," police said. "Officers deployed a Taser after Yonely refused officers' commands to place his hands on a nearby wall and submit to arrest."

Yonely was charged with retail theft and resisting an officer.
