The Will County Clerk's Office said its seven vote-by-mail drop boxes in the county will be closed on Election Day, Nov. 3.

The drop boxes are located inside local libraries and at Governors State University, according to a news release. Since several libraries will be closed on Nov. 3 to secure ballot collection points in an orderly fashion, the clerk's office will close these drop boxes starting in the late afternoon on Monday, Nov. 2, the evening before Election Day.

These drop boxes will not be accepting ballots on Election Day.

The only drop box that will accept ballot envelopes on Election Day will be outside the Will County Clerk's Office, located at 302 N. Chicago St. in downtown Joliet. That drop box will close promptly at 7 p.m., along with all polling places.

On Nov. 2, the drop boxes at the Wilmington Public Library and the Plainfield Public Library will close at 4:30 p.m. The box at the Naperville 95th Street Library will close at 5:15 p.m. The box at Governors State University will close at 5:30 p.m. The boxes at the Frankfort Public Library and the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook will close at 6 p.m. The box at the White Oak Public Library in Lockport will close at 6:45 p.m.

The clerk's office said these closing times are approximate although no drop box will be closed earlier than the times listed above.

Will County residents have until Thursday to request a mail-in ballot. A completed ballot must be returned to the Will County Clerk's Office no later than 7 p.m. on Nov. 3. Ballots received at the clerk's office by mail after Election Day must have been postmarked by Nov. 3. Those ballots will be counted after the provisional count on Nov. 17.

Will County residents can also vote early and in person at more than 20 locations around the county. Some of those locations only serve voters in their local municipality or township, though most serve all voters in Will County.
