Romeoville police investigating fatal crash involving steamroller

Police are investigating a crash involving a Caterpillar steamroller that led to death of a Romeoville man.

About 6:33 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of a crash at Route 53, south of Airport Road, according to a Romeoville police news release.

The crash involved a Caterpillar steamroller driven by Marcus Magallenes, 58, a Chevrolet Cruze that was driven by Stanley Buchta, 68, and a Toyota Prius, police said.

Magallenes was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for his injuries, while Buchta was taken to AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center in Bolingbrook, police said.

Buchta was pronounced deceased at 7:04 p.m. Thursday at the Bolingbrook hospital, according to news release that was posted on the Will County Coroner’s Office's Facebook page.

“Mr. Buchta was the driver of a vehicle that struck a construction vehicle on Route 53, just south of Airport Road in Romeoville,” coroner officials said.

Buchta's autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

The Romeoville Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating the crash.

“No charges have been filed at this time,” police said.

Anyone with information regarding this traffic crash should contact the Romeoville Police Department at 815 886-7219.
