The clerk’s office announced last month that it was expanding early voting at Shorewood Village Hall and the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook starting this week.
Staley-Ferry said the office already had about 4,700 requests for mail-in ballots at the beginning of last week. Her office has been active on social media, alerting residents to voting options and important dates for registering and requesting mail-in ballots.
“We’re hoping to surpass that 18 percent this time,” Staley-Ferry said, “and we’re going to do a lot of outreach.”
For the clerk, that outreach means traveling across the county to inform residents – especially young potential voters – about voting and what they need to do to participate in democracy. She’ll be visiting local high schools to talk to students and trying to start a student ambassador program to engage young people and improve turnout among that population.
