I'm especially interested in meeting Dacre Stoker, the great-grand nephew of Bram Stoker.
"Dracula" on my lap during eighth grade science and history classes (I sat in the back and the book was more interesting, even on multiple reads).
So Christmas will come early for me this year all because organizer Davis of Downers Grove decided one day he wanted to host a con.
"I've never been at the helm of a con before," Davis, a computer engineer, said. "But I have filled various capacities in local conventions over the years in Chicago.
Why vampires? Well, because Davis was a huge fan of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in high school. And because, to his knowledge, no one has ever hosted a vampire convention on this grand scale and certainly not one that as home-grown as this one is.
"I love the world of of conventions," Davis said. "I love the world of fantasy. I love going off to an event, whether it be a comic con, a sci-fi con or vampires. I love theater and I love being immersed in stuff."
Vampire lovers will have plenty of immersion at VampCon, Davis promises. Additional features include a live action vampire role playing game, a vampire escape room, a large vendor hall of vampire-related merchandise, concerts each night, panels, signings with celebrities, movie festival and a vampire masquerade ball on Saturday night – complete with magicians and fire-breathing dancers, Davis said.
Daytime activities are all ages; nighttime activities are for age 18 and up.
"If you have a strong love of vampire culture or any connection to it," Davis said, "or if you are a fan of live visual entertainment, this is for you."
