On May 4, parents, area educators and community leaders gathered at the Renaissance Center in Joliet.
There, the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry and its education committee held its fourth annual Scholarship Awards Dinner. This year, 44 students received scholarships.
Each year this scholarship program gives $1,000 scholarships to children in fourth through eighth grades to encourage them to plan for college. The scholarship money is sent to each child's school at the appropriate time.
The Joliet Chamber Education Committee established the Joliet Region Education Hawk Scholarship Fund in 2014. Modeled after a successful scholarship program in other states, this program exists to inspire and motivate students to go beyond high school education through recognition and financial reward for academic performance and community service.
