A parent who has been furloughed or lost a job in the era of COVID-19 has tough choices to make every day.
Many people are having a difficult time paying the bills. For parents of Catholic school students, many are worried about paying tuition at their child’s Catholic school.
One donor in the Diocese of Joliet wanted to save parents from having to make heart-wrenching choices regarding their child’s return to Catholic school in the fall.
In May, the Catholic Education Foundation received a generous $100,000 donation to help ensure students can return to their Catholic school in the fall.
With the support of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the “One Family of Faith Fund” was created. This fund provides tuition assistance to Catholic school students whose parents have experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19.
The scholarship fund was named the “One Family of Faith Fund” recognizing that being Catholic means being part of a family and that sometimes members of our family need help.
The Catholic Education Foundation is working side-by-side with the Catholic school administrators to identify families who have been financially impacted by this crisis. Already, more than $50,000 in tuition assistance has been awarded to families facing financial challenges during the pandemic.
While Catholic school teachers and leaders work hard to prepare the schools for reopening, the Catholic Education Foundation is committed to providing the financial support to allow students to return to their school family in the fall.
“The Foundation knows that Catholic schools lift up children and their families and strengthen our communities, and we are committed to providing tuition assistance, so that Catholic education remains affordable for families especially during these difficult times,” said Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Georgis.
