Is an appointment for a microlaser peel in your future? Here is what you can expect from a treatment session.
With microlaser peels, a state of the art laser is used to remove the outermost layer of the skin. During the healing process, new skin cells form, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin.
“It’s a great resurfacing treatment,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.
Eterna’s peel can treat several layers of skin. Depending on skin type, condition and improvement goals, the depth of the peel can vary.
“We usually schedule either four to six microns or 10 to 20 microns,” Malinowski said.
The epidermis is approximately 100 microns in thickness of which 10 to 15 microns is the hard dead layer. A deeper peel can take a little longer to heal.
“Most people start with a depth of four to six microns and then lead into a depth of 10 to 20 for the next treatment,” Malinowski said.
Immediately after the peel, clients typically feel like they have a bad sunburn.
“In the days following your skin will feel tight leading up to a peeling off of the dead skin layers,” Malinowski said.
She said it is imperative to protect the skin following the peel.
“Using good products will do that as well as increase the longevity of the results,” Malinowski said. “Additionally, protecting your skin protects the investment you made in your skin.”
A single treatment can provide a noticeable effect, but three to four peels annually are advised for optimal results.
