All can be merry and bright with a gift of jewelry this holiday season

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holiday season. Wondering what to put under the tree for your nearest and dearest? Jewelry makes the perfect gift. Theresa Murphy, owner of the Joliet-based Newstar Jewelers, offers these suggestions:

1. Stackable rings

One popular trend is rings which can be combined to create a stack on the fingers.

“This year we have seen a lot of people asking for those,” Murphy said. “They are doing a mix of white, yellow and rose gold.”

Some are also adding colored stones with the diamond bands.

“Stackables give the wearer a lot of versatility,” Murphy said. “They can wear one band for a simple look or put three or four bands together for a more dramatic look.”

2. Gemstones

Add a pop of color with gemstone pieces.

“Those have been very popular also,” Murphy said. “Sometimes it is their birthstone, otherwise just a favorite color. They are choosing the earrings and matching necklace to be worn as a set.”

3. Pearls

Pearls are a jewelry box staple.

“Now they are expanding the classic white pearl strand, adding black Tahitian pearls to their collection,” Murphy said.

Newstar Jewelers has also gotten requests for soft golden, cream and grey pearls.

“These colors mixed together compliment each other so well,” Murphy said. “And pearls look great when worn with a cocktail dress or jeans and a nice shirt.”

4. Bold

These days, women are looking for pieces that have a bolder look, Murphy said.

“With more people doing online meetings, they still want that polished office look and one way is to have those larger statement pieces of jewelry that can be easier seen on screen,” she said.

Whoever you are shopping for this holiday season, Newstar Jewelers can help find a unique gift for those on your list.
